Malibu walls take more salt than anywhere else on this coast, and canyon homes face real fire risk. On the beach side, standard galvanized lath and fasteners corrode quickly and stucco loses its grip. In the canyons, exterior cladding is part of the fire defense. We repair and rebuild Malibu exteriors with materials chosen for both conditions and plan coastal and fire permits from the start.

Beachfront walls

On houses near the sand, spray and salt reach the stucco directly, and the steel inside it suffers first. Rust stains, bulges and hollow areas show where the lath has failed. We remove the damaged plaster, replace lath and accessories with stainless or heavily coated products, renew the paper with careful laps and rebuild the wall in three coats. Flashing at windows and doors is replaced with corrosion-resistant metals. The finish coat is chosen for crack resistance and matched in color to the rest of the house.

Canyon walls and fire

Higher up, walls face embers and radiant heat. Stucco is noncombustible, so keeping it intact is part of the protection. We repair cracks and hollow areas, replace vents with ember-resistant designs, enclose eaves and use noncombustible trim around openings. Rebuilds after fire get a new cladding system that meets the state's wildfire rules. Exterior work in Malibu can require coastal approval, and we confirm the permit path before scheduling any significant change to the walls. Salt-resistant fasteners hold the trim, and color is matched to the existing walls.
