Many El Segundo houses still wear the stucco they were built with, along with decades of patches from earlier repairs. Thin coats over old wire lath, hairline cracks mapped across a wall and paint layers peeling where moisture pushes from behind are all common. We look at the whole wall, decide what can stay and repair the rest so the house is sealed again.

Old lath and old patches

Older stucco was often applied over wire lath on wood sheathing or open studs, with paper that has long since dried out. Where water has reached that lath, it rusts and the plaster loses its grip, sounding hollow when tapped. Earlier patches done in a different mix or texture show as blotches and crack along their edges. We remove loose areas back to sound material, replace paper and lath in those sections and lap the new into the old so water still drains outward.

Paint and the final coat

Many layers of paint can trap moisture in the wall, and that is often why the finish peels. We remove what is failing, repair the plaster and then finish with a breathable color coat or an elastomeric finish where the wall needs extra crack bridging. The choice depends on how the wall behaves and how close the house is to the ocean air. The result should be one even surface with no visible patch lines from the street. Trim and fascia are repainted to match.
